Sneak Peek...Polaroid

Hello, and happy Monday to you. How was your weekend, do anything fun? Me... got to try something I've never done before, shovel my roof~ jealous aren't you. I would say that task is the equivalent of having to date as a 40 yr old single mom. Unavoidable and extremely terrifying... all at the same time.

On a fun note...spent some time in New Haven, walked around Yale, looked at some art. Marveled at how people in the city can find parking given that the meters are covered in snow and half the road is gone, shocked we found a spot and didn't get a ticket.

About those Polaroids the set above was taken with an SX-70 and 100 Color (push) film from the Impossible Project. This is the second pack used and does tend to lean more to pink, which is a fantastic ghost effect, more important I've learned to tape a card (darkslide) to block the light as the image ejects, makes a huge impact. For a while now I have been "collecting" Polaroid camera's...thrift stores around here are always carrying a few and I have managed to find 6 different models...if you are looking for a 600 let me know in the comments, they run around $3.99 *!*.  So coming up this week, yes more snow, so yea more pictures of snow. More Polaroids and films and cameras...and perhaps a little music.

Thanks for stopping by....  I sincerely appreciate your comments...if you have any polaroids to share leave a link~ Cheers!

Room Swap:: Part 1

Greetings from total chaos. How was your weekend, did you have fun? It's day three four of the room switch and although things are shaping up...there is still much work to be done.

As mentioned things were crowded in my home office, which was formerly my daughters nursery. The bedroom on the opposite wall is to the front of the house, gets full sun, the heat vent works well (bonus) also it's also a few feet bigger so it makes more sense for a work space. The former office has nice "oatmeal" looking wall paper and although the room is smaller, the closet is bigger and has a nice view of the backyard.

The real issue would be that there was never any intention for my office,  I just kept adding what I needed without a plan. I mean, it's the darkest and coldest room in winter *depressing*. The house itself is around 100 years old so there is very little insulation left, the electrical is Green Acre's at best, one outlet with a power cord plugged into another power cord. Basically using my serger would mean my computer would need to be off so I wouldn't blow a circuit, this is funny only because there wasn't an electrical fire :) Below are a few photos, so far everything is moved and the closets are done.

I'll be taking my time here, it's a good two week project. The "new" office was the most neglected room in the house, cracked plaster and the questionable drop ceiling need work, it's a good time to tackle it. In the meantime I'll post a bit on the furniture, some of it I have had since the the late 90's or scored at tag sales so DIY is in order.  Hope your off to a great week, have any DIY plans of your own?

Color Day :: Silver & Gold

Winter Colors Week at Poppytalk~ Flickr Pool

It's another snow day here...the second in a short week, last week we had 2 days of snow as well, to sum it up thats 5 DAYS my lulus have been out of school in the last 2 weeks. So aside from the screaming back pain from the shoveling, I'm embracing it,  kinda love snow days.

Cabin fever arrived at the end of last week and I decided to take it head on and do what comes naturally, rearrange the furniture. Do you do this too? My feeling is I can't stand my "office" anymore, the walls are closing in it's so jam packed, so it's time to move it, thats right, total room swap.  Lots of work and certainly not kind on the already aching back, but I've outgrown the space and I have options. Loads of pictures to come, it's going to be total chaos, I'm so excited!!

What do you do with cabin fever?

ps. although I'm not superstitious, I'm thinkin that my Polaroid post was jinxed...so until I've got a solid week of computer cooperation I'm not going there, your with me on that right?

It's back....Color Week at  Poppytalk blog, the group pool on flicker is as follows :

Wednesday- Blues
Thursday- Greens
and Friday- Silver & Gold!

So for Today~

a few favorite quotes from MLK day~ or perfect on any day~

"The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined nonconformists who are dedicated to justice, peace, and brotherhood."

Martin Luther King Jr.

"All I'm saying is simply this: that all life is interrelated, that somehow we're caught in an inescapable network of mutuality tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly. For some strange reason, I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. You can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality."

Grrr....

No color today. I give up, it's really been one thing after another around here and still encountering issues with my computer,  I have a couple on network and there seems to be bugs everywhere since the new hard drive was installed on my laptop. Toss in a couple of snow days and meetings for work and there is no "down" time. As much as I try to keep the chin up, today I surrender, I am going to walk around my office muttering cuss words, because sometimes I find swearing therapeutic. Sometimes I find grilled cheese therapeutic too, so I'm going to try that too. Grrr.

While experiencing technical difficulties....

Hey there, having a major computer snafu ... on day four of it and my frustration is through the roof..largely because I have lost so much time over the last few days, and I still don't have a fully functioning computer. My hope is to still post my polaroid color day this week, but in the meantime have a look at the Polaroid group on flickr ... links after the image. Hope your Tuesday is magical.

Hettle Shop Update~ more cozy

A bit of an update to the Hettle, more cowls and infinity scarfs have been added and there a just a handfull of pillow covers. At a later date I will be adding a few more *new* items. My goal for the new year is to focus on what works time wise for me and be more precise in what I would like Hettle to accomplish. Over the holiday I read this fun article on Outspoken Media, The 7 things that are killing your brand...I'm a soft 3 here on being inconsistent and unfocused so I'm going to do a little work on that. Something else I would like to do this year with Hettle is to do a craft show, now that the shop carries a some items that are easier to work into this format I think it would be a good way to meet more indie business people and branch out of the net. If you have a craft show that is local ( New England ) that you think is reasonably priced for a novice to do, let me know in the comments, I'd love any suggestions.

Hope your week is going great, I will be back on Friday with Color Day : Polaroid. Cheers!

On good intentions...

So a funny thing happened on my way to post yesterday.... scene starts with best intentions to remain focused on singular tasks and organizing my time better, because as much as I would love more time, it just isn't going to magically appear. So I made an effort on Sunday evening putting Post It notes on my computer about what to write (being more organized in 2011) and what emails needed to be sent and what images to use etc. Edited images, placed them into the draft of the post, so I could do the bulk of the writing on Monday morning. Super, right...go me!

So I went to clean up the house a bit, realized the flu on my fireplace was open...went to shut it and caught my thumb nail in it...if you said "ouch" in your head, you would be right.

You seriously can't believe,
A. how much that freaking hurts and
B. how much you can't do without the use of your thumb

Cut to Monday morning feels a bit better, head into my office to turn on my computer and super me knocks over a glass of cranberry seltzer, into my keyboard. (see where I'm going with this) so far only half the keys stick, so that's a plus. But I still want to kick off the New Year organized an ahead my schedule,  I rally and  switch gears to a mini- photo shoot for the new scarfs in the shop. Camera, check. Tripod, check. Camera mounted on said Tri-pod, yes, did I tighten arm...no, did I then get my SAME thumb smashed under the camera and the mount, of course I did, and when I went to pull it back upright an tighten it, did I hit myself in the face with the camera, that would be a yes. (nice dent in my forehead)  That's when i cried. what else do you do?

So why am I telling you this, well, because as much as I thought my first post of the *New* year was going to be about getting organized, and kicking of the year right and how to live a more creative life and how positive it felt, the universe instead illustrated quite vividly that it's more likely going to be about survival  determination. And because after i cried...i laughed, because it is kinda funny.

Some fabric prints I worked on this summer, I love them, can't wait to play with them, what do you think? I think it's about time Hettle had some new items~

and of course gratuitous pictures of the LuLu's on winter vacation

My son is using crocheted headphones from Late to the Revolution on Etsy, highly recommend.

Have a fantastic day...be back soon with Color Day :: Polaroid!
